Bowman Posts 11 Kills on 11 Attempts in Chargers’ Quarterfinal Victory

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team began defense of its Region IV District A tournament title with a lopsided 25-6, 25-11, 25-9 sweep of Triton in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
The top-seeded Chargers (24-17) advance to face Illinois Valley in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Sunday. The winner moves on to the championship at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with a spot in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship at stake.
Sandburg freshman Peyton Bowman (West Prairie), the District A Player of the Year, had a perfect match against the eighth-seeded Trojans (3-19), putting down 11 kills on 11 attempts. The Chargers totaled 41 kills while posting a .458 hitting percentage.
Sandburg also got nine kills and 13 digs from sophomore Josalyn Owens (Lincoln) as well as eight kills and seven aces from sophomore Hannah Thompson (West Prairie). Setter Cora Vyhnanek (West Prairie) had 32 assists for the Chargers.
